The increase in fees for the passage of ships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits may affect the cost of a wide variety of goods around the world. This was announced to Izvestia on June 15 by economist Maxim Chirkov.

Earlier, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said that from July 1, the country's authorities would increase the cost of passage of ships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits by 15%.

"It will be more profitable for some transport companies to choose other routes that will be more expensive. For some, sea transport itself will be more expensive. <...> This can provoke an increase in prices for various raw materials, including traditional Russian exports," the economist explained.

Chirkov stressed that due to the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East, the demand for transportation in this region will grow, which means, in his opinion, the increase in prices for the passage of ships is fully justified.

On February 22, it was reported that traffic through the Bosphorus Strait was temporarily suspended in both directions due to snowfall. In January, the movement of ships through the Bosphorus was also suspended to search for the missing brother and sister.
