The Interior Ministry has warned about malicious extensions for popular browsers

Researchers at layerX Security have discovered malicious extensions for popular browsers with an audience of 1.5 million users. This was announced on June 15 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"Researchers at layerX Security have identified four extensions for Chrome and Edge browsers that offered the user improved sound management of web pages (Sound Fixer, Sound Booster, Volume Master, Sound Control). In total, 1.5 million users worldwide have installed these extensions," the agency wrote on its Telegram channel.
It is clarified that these extensions allow their developers to impose advertisements or phishing forms on the user, intercept information about his activity, as well as change links or redirect to third-party resources.
According to the agency, some of these extensions were marked as malicious on the VirusTotal platform, but they are still available in the Chrome browser.
On June 13, the Interior Ministry reported that online shopping had become the most popular area for phishing. It clarifies that a significant number of fake resources offered lumber and ready-made gazebos, as well as musical instruments, tobacco products, auto parts and branded clothing.
