On June 14, Pope Leo XIV called on Israel and Iran to be held accountable amid the escalating conflict between the countries.

"At such a delicate moment, I urge responsibility and common sense," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.

According to the pontiff, building a "secure world" without the nuclear threat should be carried out through "respectful meetings and sincere dialogue," as well as the reasonableness of countries.

At the same time, earlier in the day, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened Iran with the destruction of Tehran if the attacks continued.

On June 13, Israel launched a preemptive strike against Iran and declared a state of emergency. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the purpose of the military operation is to strike at Iran's nuclear infrastructure.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone conversations with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Peseshkian and Netanyahu. He stressed that the Russian side condemns Israel's actions and will contribute to de-escalating the conflict between the states.
