Rosatom State Corporation has been selected as the leader of the consortium for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. This was reported on the website of the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan on June 14.

It is noted that according to the results of the work carried out, Rosatom (Russia), China National Nuclear Corporation (China), Électricité de France (France) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (South Korea) were included in the "shortlist" of potential vendors. The Russian company has made the most optimal and profitable offer.

"Thus, Rosatom has been identified as the leader of the international consortium for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. Currently, according to Rosatom's proposals, work has begun on the issue of attracting state export financing from the Russian Federation," the report says.

On January 3, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that he did not rule out the construction of a second and third power plants, emphasizing the need for a nuclear power plant for the republic. He noted that the nuclear industry will give a powerful impetus to the development of the country's economy, which is currently in energy deficit.

Earlier, on December 23, 2024, Tokayev, at a meeting with the Minister of Energy of the Republic Almasadam Satkaliyev, instructed to accelerate the implementation of the nuclear power plant construction project in the country. On December 12, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko said that during a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, she discussed Rosatom's assistance in building a nuclear power plant in the republic, as well as humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
