The Russian government announced the testing of laser systems

Russia has conducted tests of laser systems that will later become part of the universal air defense system. This was announced on June 13 on the official website of the Government of the Russian Federation.

"First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov took part in large-scale tests of advanced laser systems for countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at one of the specialized training grounds. <...> In the future, these technological solutions will become one of the components of the universal air defense system, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before," the publication says.

The main purpose of the testing was to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of the latest laser systems under conditions close to reality. During the test, the accuracy of guidance, the range of damage, and the reaction speed of the complexes to moving targets were checked. Their resistance to various weather conditions was also investigated.

Eight UAV counteraction systems of various capacities took part in the testing, which helped to obtain reliable information about the characteristics of modern laser technologies in the fight against unmanned threats. Scenarios for countering UAVs of various types were worked out on a specially equipped site.

As a result, the tests confirmed the characteristics that were initially stated by the manufacturers, as well as the correctness of the chosen areas of development of integrated systems for the defense of critical infrastructure facilities from UAVs. The test results will be used in the future to refine existing samples and create systems capable of providing reliable protection against modern means of air attack. The tests allowed us to move on to the stage of mass production and scaling of the demonstrated solutions.
