- NATO Secretary General says he is working on de-escalation after Israel's attack on Iran
NATO countries are working to de-escalate the conflict after Israel's strikes on Iran. This was announced on June 13 by the Secretary General of the alliance Mark Rutte at a press conference in Stockholm.
"For many NATO states, especially for the United States, it is important to work on de-escalation of the conflict. I know they are working on it," Rutte said, his speech was broadcast on the bloc's website.
The Secretary General called the "unilateral action" by Israel dynamic and rapidly changing. He also said that NATO would not be involved in the conflict in the Middle East.
Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran and declared a state of emergency across the country earlier in the day. At least five people died as a result of the incident. In addition, two more people were killed and six injured as a result of Israeli strikes on the city of Tabriz. According to the latest information, about 250 raids were carried out.
In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the purpose of the military operation to attack Iran's nuclear infrastructure. At the same time, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern and recalled the obligation of UN Member states to act in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
