The purpose of the Israeli strikes on Iran is not so much to defeat Tehran as to involve the United States in a major war. This was stated by Vladimir Leonidovich Shapovalov, a political scientist and deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics at Moscow State University, in an interview with Izvestia on June 13.

"The success of the US-Iranian negotiations would significantly complicate Israel's position, since it is a militaristic state and, in general, its continuation in alliance with the United States and continued receipt of unlimited assistance from the United States is possible only in conditions of military conflict or the threat of military conflict," he said.

According to the expert, at the moment, American representatives have reacted to what is happening with restraint and caution.

"I think that Israel has a certain number of scenario options that can put the United States in a situation of providing military support," Shapovalov said.

Iran, he continued, has suffered serious damage both reputationally and practically. Shapovalov recalled the deaths of key military leaders and scientists. In his opinion, this highlights the terrorist nature of Israel's actions, since it is obvious that these people, who were victims of Israeli attacks, could not participate in any military operations.

In addition, the political scientist noted that it is unclear how serious Tehran's response will be, but it will definitely not be formal, since this attack was the most significant in the entire history of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
