Russian scientist Ksenia Petrova has been released on bail from custody after four months of arrest in the United States for importing frog embryos into the country. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on June 12.

"On Thursday, [she] was released on bail and released from custody while awaiting trial on criminal charges of smuggling frog embryos into the United States," the agency reports.

It is noted that Petrova's detention occurred against the background of a campaign by the administration of US President Donald Trump to tighten migration policy.

"I just want to thank everyone for their support," the scientist said in an address to reporters gathered outside the courthouse.

Petrova's arrest was reported on May 15. It is clarified that at first Petrova denied that she was carrying biological material in her luggage, but then allegedly confessed to the contrary. In April, Bloomberg reported that the Trump administration had refused to release Petrova.
