16th century shipwreck discovered off the coast of France

The wreckage of a 16th-century shipwreck has been discovered in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of France. This was reported on June 12 by the Franceinfo radio station.
"Never before has a sunken ship been found so far out at sea in France: a 30-meter-long merchant vessel with a length of 7 m, which, according to archaeologists, dates back to the 16th century, has been [discovered]. There is practically a whole anchor, cannons for defense in front and behind the ship, two large boilers," the publication says.
According to preliminary conclusions of experts, the ship could have left the port in the north-west of Italy. At the same time, the destination and the causes of the sinking of the ship remain unknown.
It is reported that research and excavation of the crash site should begin soon. As specified in the publication, because of the great depth, "they promise to be long and difficult."
Earlier, on June 11, researchers discovered treasures off the coast of Colombia that were transported aboard the ship San Jose, which sank 300 years ago. The current value of the valuables can reach $17 billion, potentially making them the largest known underwater treasure trove.
