AIr India has confirmed the deaths of 241 passengers out of 242 on board the crashed plane.

"We regret to inform you that of the 242 people on board, 241 people died. The only survivor is being treated in hospital," the statement said.

It is specified that among the passengers of the downed plane were 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens and one Canadian citizen.

The only surviving passenger is a British citizen of Indian origin.

"Air India expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Now our efforts are fully focused on the needs of all the victims, their families and loved ones," the organization said.
