The United States fears that Israel's air defense systems will not be able to cope with Iran's response to possible Israeli strikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities. This was reported on June 12 by the Axios portal, citing sources.

"The United States is concerned that Israel's air defense systems would not be able to withstand Iran's response with hundreds of missiles," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, Iran's retaliatory strike could "crush Israel's defenses and cause serious damage." It is clarified that, according to US intelligence, Iran possesses 2,000 ballistic missiles, most of which can reach Israel.

The Axios source also stressed that since the last missile attack on Israel in October 2024, Iran has significantly increased production of ballistic missiles to 50 per month.

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump said that an Israeli strike on Iran is not inevitable, but it is quite possible. The American leader also stressed that he considers it unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons.

On June 11, CBS News reported that Israel was fully prepared to launch an operation in Iran. The United States expects Iran to retaliate against some American facilities in Iraq, the media said. On the same day, The New York Times clarified that Iran had already developed a retaliatory strike plan in case of a potential attack from Israel.
