Dubai police have arrested former Spartak football player Promes


Quincy Promes, a former football player from the Spartak Moscow club, was arrested in Dubai. This was reported on June 12 by the newspaper De Telegraaf.
"Dubai police have arrested Quincy Promes. <...> According to sources, the professional football player was detained due to an extradition request from Dutch justice," the newspaper writes.
It is specified that the athlete was arrested in his house. Promes was taken to a temporary detention center in Dubai. Promes' lawyer confirmed the arrest to the newspaper, but declined to comment further.
Promes played for Spartak from 2014 to 2018, returned to the football club in 2021 and played in its composition until 2024.
On June 9, it was reported that the lawyer of the ex-Spartak player sent a request to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal to suspend the earlier decision on the arrest of his client.
In the Netherlands, two criminal cases have been initiated against a football player. One of them was on the fact of stabbing a cousin, for which he was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison. The second case concerns participation in the importation of more than a ton of cocaine through the port of the Belgian city of Antwerp, a court in Amsterdam sentenced the athlete to six years in prison in absentia. On March 1, the Netherlands began discussions with the UAE authorities on Promes' extradition.
