Death toll in Indian plane crash rises to 317


The death toll from a plane crash in western India has exceeded 310 people. This was reported on June 12 by The New Indian Express newspaper, citing police data.
"About 317 people died," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that, according to law enforcement agencies, about 75 people died on the ground where the liner crashed. Almost everyone on board the plane was also killed.
The plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, became known earlier that day. There were 242 passengers on board, including two pilots and 10 flight attendants. A Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed into a dormitory building for doctors. According to NDTV, the cause of the Air India flight crash could be a collision with birds.
One of the passengers survived the plane crash — he turned out to be a 40-year-old British citizen. Rescue operations are continuing.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his deep condolences to the Indian leadership over the tragic consequences of the airliner crash.
