A seal from the time of Ivan III was found in the center of Moscow.
In Romanov Lane in Moscow, archaeologists have discovered the last lead seal from the time of Ivan III. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in his Telegram channel.
"The seal was found near the Church of the Sign in Sheremetyevo courtyard. Large—scale excavations are underway here," the publication says.
According to the mayor, the seal was found in a layer of the first half to the middle of the 16th century. The exhibit became the most valuable find, despite the fact that over 3 thousand objects were discovered in just a few years.
It is specified that the image of St. George the Victorious has been preserved on one side of the seal. On the other side is the inscription "Seal of Prince Ivan Vasilyevich the Great." During the reign of Ivan III, the emperor used this imprint to seal important foreign and domestic political documents.
At the moment, the found object has already been restored by specialists. It is planned to transfer it to the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, on May 29, in Tyva, in the Valley of the Kings, archaeologists discovered Scythian treasures and daggers made in the animal style. Experts found more than 50 objects in total, including bronze mirrors, daggers, and gold jewelry with geometric ornaments.
