Deputy Kharchenko pointed out the need to train teachers to work with AI

Teachers at all levels of education need to be taught how to use artificial intelligence (AI) as a working tool and modern technology. This was announced on June 12 by Ekaterina Kharchenko, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, commenting on the use of AI by schoolchildren when preparing homework.
According to her, it is important not to ban the use of neural networks, but to build clear rules for the interaction of students and teachers with new digital tools. Kharchenko stressed that AI should not replace independent learning activities, especially when doing homework. Instead, technologies can be applied in analytics, project activities, additional education and for the development of IT competencies.
"Artificial intelligence should become an assistant that improves the quality of education. Fundamental, classical education based on direct teacher—student interaction remains a key resource for Russia's development," the deputy noted.
According to her, it is important to competently integrate technology into the educational process.
She also recalled that an inter-factional working group has been established in the State Duma to develop a legislative framework for the use of "nationally oriented" AI. It was headed by Vice Speaker Alexander Babakov, and the group's work will last until the end of the convocation.
Kharchenko stressed that all initiatives in this area will be developed with the participation of the professional community and taking into account the opinion of citizens.
"There is a lot of painstaking work ahead, and together we need to assess many factors, including the risks and threats of using AI in the education system, and form ethical standards that will form the foundation for using neural networks and new information technologies in our lives," the deputy concluded.
On June 2, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that Russia needs to create conditions for the development of breakthrough scientific fields. He noted that the country should not only catch up with the leaders in this field, but also compete successfully with them.
