Representatives of the United States and Canada are working on the text of a potential trade agreement between the countries. This was reported on June 12 by CBS News, citing sources.

"Although this is considered a step towards achieving the common goal of reaching an agreement, there are warnings from various sources that more work needs to be done before an agreement is reached," the publication says.

It is reported that while working on the text, "the document was sent back and forth between Ottawa and Washington." At the same time, it is noted that currently the parties have not agreed on any trade deal option.

On March 4, an increase in trade duties for Canada came into force in the United States, they amounted to 25%. On April 7, the Canadian side filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over US duties on cars and spare parts.

On April 26, the Canadian Prime Minister said that Trump had betrayed Canada when he launched a trade war against his "nearest neighbor." He noted that the increase in duties is destroying the global economy. Back in March, Carney told reporters that Canada intends to reduce its economic dependence on the United States.
