- The head of the Donetsk Philharmonic Society spoke about the artists who serve in his company

About 60 musicians of the Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic went on a special military operation in the winter of 2022. This was announced on June 11 by the head of the institution, Alexander Paretsky.
"No one thought that everything would be so serious that our musicians, who performed Scriabin on stage on February 18, would find themselves on the front line in just a few days, not with musical instruments, but with weapons," Paretsky said in an interview with the Donetsk News Agency.
According to him, many people "change their worldview" when he tells them that philharmonic artists do not entertain military personnel, but they themselves stand up for the Motherland.
About 60 Philharmonic employees have left to serve as mobilizers and volunteers, and many of them currently remain on the front line. However, six philharmonic employees died during the fighting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on May 13 that at least 50,000 volunteers come to serve in the Russian army every month. According to him, unlike the Russian Federation, the authorities in Ukraine are engaged in forced mobilization. They "catch people like dogs" there. Approximately their number is 30 thousand people.
