In summer, the risk of poisoning increases significantly, said Elena Specenko, director of the Roskachestvo Center for Food Safety Competencies, on Wednesday, June 11. She listed the most dangerous foods for health in hot weather.
According to the expert, high temperatures create ideal conditions for the reproduction of bacteria, and some products become especially dangerous. She warned that perishable foods containing protein and moisture are primarily at risk.
"Meat and poultry are most dangerous in the heat, especially if they have been stored incorrectly. Cooked shish kebab, left in the sun even for a couple of hours, can become a source of salmonella or E. coli. The same applies to ready—made meat products — sausages, pates, cutlets," Specsenko said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
She added that dairy products are also dangerous in the heat.
"Cottage cheese, sour cream, yoghurts and soft cheeses are a favorable breeding ground for pathogenic microorganisms. Even if the shelf life has not expired yet, if improperly stored, these products can cause severe digestive disorders," the expert noted.
Fish and seafood are also at risk. They quickly lose their freshness in the heat, so even a slight unpleasant odor may indicate the beginning of decomposition processes.
Salads with mayonnaise and other sauces are also on the list of the most dangerous summer foods, Specsenko added.
At the first signs of poisoning — nausea, weakness, diarrhea — you should immediately consult a doctor, the expert concluded.
On the same day, the pediatrician of the SM Clinic for children, Daria Isetskaya, said that in the heat it is important to monitor the child's drinking regime, RT reports.
Earlier, on June 7, gastroenterologist, nutritionist, Candidate of medical Sciences Irina Berezhneva said that regular drinking water refreshes better in the hot season than any other drinks.
Earlier, nutritionist Irina Pisareva warned that it is necessary to thoroughly wash all vegetables and herbs, and do not store ready-made food for more than an hour outside the refrigerator so as not to get poisoned in the heat.
