Proper application of sunscreen is the key to reliable protection from UV rays. On June 13, the press service of Roskachestvo shared with Izvestia tips that will help maintain skin health.

"Many people mistakenly believe that it is enough to apply sunscreen once a day. In fact, its effectiveness is reduced due to contact with water, friction or exposure to sunlight,"the press service explained.

It is specified that the cream should be updated every two to four hours. Indoor reapplication is not required.

Another common mistake is the improper use of creams with chemical filters. They begin to act after 15-20 minutes and lose their protective properties when exposed to ultraviolet rays, so it is important to update the product every two hours. Roskachestvo advises, in case of doubt, to remove the old layer and apply a new one.

Saving on the amount of cream is also a mistake. It is necessary to use at least a teaspoon for each area of the body, and on sunny days — up to seven spoons. It is noted that even inexpensive remedies can be effective with the right dosage.

The press service also reported that some areas of the body, such as the neck, ears, eyelids and lips, are often left unprotected. It is recommended to use a special lip balm with SPF.

In addition, it is important to monitor the shelf life of products, as they can quickly deteriorate. Experts advised storing them in a cool place and checking the labeling, as expired cream can harm the skin.

On April 12, Svetlana Petrova, a dermatologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, stated that creams with an SPF factor should be used with an ultraviolet radiation index of three or higher. She explained that sunscreens should be applied 15 minutes before going outside to all exposed areas of the body: face, arms, neck and other areas not covered by clothing. In addition, when actively staying in the sun, especially on the beach, the cream needs to be renewed every 1.5–2 hours or after each swim.
