Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh, an expert doctor at the Hemotest Laboratory, shared her recommendations on safe nutrition in the summer on June 13 in an interview with Izvestia. She stressed that in hot weather, the risk of food poisoning increases significantly, especially from perishable foods.

"Perishable products are the most dangerous. It is especially risky to buy street food with meat fillings — shawarma, burgers, hot dogs. At temperatures above +23 degrees, pathogenic bacteria, including salmonella and E. coli, multiply rapidly in them," the expert noted.

In addition, Kashukh noted that rolls and sandwiches with raw fish can also be dangerous, as it is difficult to ensure proper storage conditions for seafood outdoors.

In addition, the expert warned about the risks associated with products containing mayonnaise and other perishable sauces that can lead to intestinal infections. You should also avoid sweets with cream, as they can become a source of food poisoning.

Kashukh also emphasized the importance of the sanitary condition of retail outlets and the accuracy of sellers. It is recommended to consume food immediately after purchase and observe personal hygiene. At the first symptoms of poisoning, you need to drink water and consult a doctor if the condition does not improve.

Special care should be taken when choosing food for children, as their bodies are more susceptible to toxins. It is better to give preference to fresh fruits and vegetables, and buy ice cream and drinks only in trusted places.

Dmitry Karpenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Polyclinic Therapy at the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Pirogov University, said on June 9 that the use of alcohol to prevent poisoning is hardly desirable. According to him, the use of strong drinks does not neutralize the toxins that have already formed. It can only worsen the patient's condition because it causes dehydration.
