The fraudster convinced a pensioner from Moscow to give him more than 12 million rubles and a gold bar. This was announced on June 11 by a source of Izvestia.
"The conman contacted an 82-year-old woman on June 9th. He introduced himself as an "economic security officer" and said that terrorists had used her personal data," the source said.
The attacker asked the victim to collect and transfer all her savings and valuables to the courier, ostensibly to protect them. The pensioner gave the fraudster 4 million rubles, $84.8 thousand and €16.7 thousand, as well as a 10-gram gold bar.
The total damage amounted to more than 12 million rubles. A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). The suspect has been detained.
On June 9, in Moscow, a student handed over more than 1.7 million rubles to fraudsters. It was clarified that the girl received a call from a man who identified himself as a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science. He invited her to register on the agency's website and convinced her to dictate the code from an SMS message to him.
