Europe has adopted a strategy of slowly squeezing Ukrainian refugees back. Vladimir Zharikhin, a political scientist and deputy director of the Institute of CIS Countries, expressed this opinion on Wednesday, June 11.

The political scientist noted that initially the enthusiasm to support Ukrainian refugees was strong, but it quickly ended.

"They are causing more and more inconvenience. The Europeans cannot integrate them permanently into the country, so they rather adopted a strategy of slowly squeezing them back, that is, reducing and reducing the preferences they initially gave to refugees," Zharikhin said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

He added that Europe no longer has enough funding for the maintenance of Ukrainian refugees.

"The economic situation in Europe is no longer as radiant as it was in those days when there were still cheap Russian energy sources, but there was already enthusiasm for Ukrainian refugees, and now there are refugees, but there are no cheap energy sources," he concluded.

Earlier, on June 10, it became known that the authorities of Poland and Germany intend to withdraw Ukrainian refugees from social support systems, RT reports.

Poland and Germany also expect more support from the EU budget on the issue of Ukrainian refugees, IA Regnum reports.

The Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua" on June 6 reported that as of April 2025, according to the National Bank, 6.9 million Ukrainian refugees are abroad, and since the beginning of the year, 100,000 people have left the country.
