The head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, announced on Wednesday, June 11, that she did not intend to hide from justice in Moldova.

"If I wanted to flee the country on March 25, the authorities in Chisinau would still have escorted me, as they would have been able to hold early elections of the bashkan (head of the Gagauz Autonomy) today. — Ed.)," Hutsul told a TASS correspondent.

In addition, she stressed that all the arguments regarding the escape from the country are unfounded.

Earlier, on June 9, Hutsul's lawyer Natalia Bayram reported that prosecutors had requested an extension of the house arrest of the head of Gagauzia for another 30 days. At the same time, it was clarified that the current measure would expire on June 13.

After the court hearing on May 20, Hutsul, who is under arrest, stressed her willingness to continue fighting for the rights of autonomy. She noted that the purpose of the trial was to "eliminate an inconvenient bashkan" (the highest official in Gagauzia).

On March 25, Hutsul was detained at Chisinau airport when her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. On May 12, the court decided to extend the house arrest for another 30 days.
