- The media predicted a weakening of the combat readiness of the US National Guard due to the protests in California

The deployment of National Guard forces in Los Angeles will affect their combat readiness. This was reported on June 11 by the American magazine The Atlantic, citing sources.
"In principle, the risk does not justify the use of these forces, and it will negatively affect readiness," the publication quotes retired Major General Randy Manner, who served as acting deputy chief of the National Guard Bureau under the administration of former US President Barack Obama.
Manner explained that federalizing the California Guard forces—putting them under the control of the president, not the state —deters military personnel from work and makes it difficult to conduct planned training and exercises.
According to the publication, the decision of the American leader Donald Trump to federalize 4,000 soldiers of the California National Guard, contrary to the wishes of Governor Gavin Newsom, and send 700 Marines to the Los Angeles area marks a "break in the decades-old tradition, according to which presidents limited the use of armed forces on American soil."
The day before, Trump said that the US National Guard would be recalled from California only when it was safe in the state, as well as when the situation with the protests was resolved.
Mass protests in California began after a police raid to identify illegal migrants, during which 45 people were detained. On June 8, Trump ordered the National Guard to be sent to the state to stop the riots, which was condemned by the governors of 22 states, regarding it as an "abuse of power."
