Today, about 480,000 Russian schoolchildren are obese. The Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko announced this during the government hour in the State Duma on Wednesday, June 11.

"The growing incidence of obesity in children is alarming, which, along with nutrition, is associated with a sedentary lifestyle and lack of interest in physical education and sports in many children. According to statistics, today it is 480 thousand schoolchildren," the Moscow City News agency quotes the head of the Ministry of Health.

He added that children are increasingly having problems with their posture and eyesight during school.

"Diseases of the eyes and appendages tend to increase 1.5 times during education. And there is a tendency to increase in the process of learning diseases of the gastrointestinal tract," concluded Murashko.

Earlier, on May 21, Elena Fedorova, an endocrinologist at the Academician Roitberg Clinic, warned that the problem of obesity has reached the scale of a national threat: two thirds of the adult population of Russia are overweight. 360.ru .

In turn, doctor Alexander Neymark, PhD, said that childhood obesity is most often found in families where parents also have weight problems, RT reports.
