The Second Western District Military Court on Wednesday, June 11, sentenced Danish citizen Annabel Jorgensen to 26 years in prison in absentia. According to investigators, she participated in the fighting in the Kursk region as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"To impose a sentence of 26 years of general regime imprisonment with a fine of 1.7 million rubles," the judge announced the verdict, his words were reported by a RIA Novosti correspondent from the courtroom.
Jorgensen was found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including committing a terrorist act and mercenary activities, illegal border crossing, arms smuggling, as well as illegal trafficking in weapons and ammunition. She has been put on the international wanted list and arrested in absentia.
According to the investigation's calculations, she received about $7,000 for participating in military operations against the Russian Armed Forces.
In November 2024, according to the investigation, Jorgensen, as part of a group of mercenaries, illegally crossed the Russian border and invaded the territory of the Kursk region. Her actions were aimed at intimidating the population, causing property damage and destabilizing the work of the authorities.
On May 31, it became known that the 2nd Western District Military Court would begin considering a criminal case against a Danish citizen who had invaded the Kursk region as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is clarified that Jorgensen, among other things, was involved in the seizure of residential buildings and a train station in Cambodia. On June 10, the state prosecution requested that the Danish woman be sentenced in absentia to 30 years in a penal colony.
