The new Lada Iskra model received the highest rating based on the results of crash tests conducted according to the standards of the ARCAP methodology developed by experts of the Autoreview publication. This is a more stringent standard than that provided for by certification tests in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation. This is stated in the message of AVTOVAZ, which was received by Izvestia on June 11.

The raised Lada Iskra SW Cross station wagon was subjected to an ARCAP crash test - the heaviest car in the range of models, which releases the highest energy of destruction upon impact, as well as equipped with wheels of the largest dimension (205/60 R16). The tests showed the result corresponding to the maximum four "stars" of the ARCAP rating. The Lada Vesta sedan received a similar rating earlier.

A total of 84 crash tests were conducted as part of the Iskra development. On the eve of the start of production, certification tests were completed in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation. These included a frontal impact at 56 km/h with 40 percent overlap, a side impact at 50 km/h, and a rear-end collision at 50 km/h. It is stated that Iskra has fulfilled all the requirements and demonstrated a significant margin of safety.

At the same time, during the ARCAP tests, a frontal collision with a collapsible barrier with a 40 percent overlap was carried out at a speed of 64 km/h (the exact speed according to the test report is 64.5 km/h). Increasing the speed from 56 to 64 km/h increases the impact energy by 30-35%, which makes the test conditions much tougher, the company noted.

AvtoVAZ said that upon impact at a speed of 64 km/ h, all safety systems worked normally: the retaining elements and the zones of programmable deformation of the body effectively absorbed the energy of the collision, the airbags provided optimal protection for the dummies. All sensors of the dummies recorded either a high (green) or sufficient (yellow) level of protection, without critical indicators.

On April 19, AvtoVAZ launched production of the Lada Iskra model at the Tolyatti plant. The model will be available in three body styles: sedan, station wagon and Cross-wagon with black unpainted plastic elements on the body. The novelty will occupy a market niche between the Granta and Vesta models. The start of sales is scheduled for July 20, 2025.
