The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to the danger of the militarization of the Arctic by the United States and NATO

The United States and NATO are pursuing a policy of active militarization of the Arctic, such steps undermine peace and stability in the region. This was announced on June 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Of course, such steps do not contribute at all to strengthening trust between the Arctic countries, they undermine peace and stability in the North," she said at a briefing.

Zakharova stressed that the United States and NATO countries are increasing their military potential in the region and practicing offensive operations in the Arctic.

Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on March 13 that NATO, as it expands, poses additional threats to Russia's security in the Arctic. It was noted that due to NATO's actions in the Arctic, there is a risk of creating new challenges and threats to the security of the Russian Federation and its national interests.
