The insurer announced an increase in the number of car thefts in Russia

According to the results of January-May 2025 in Russia, the number of reported car thefts increased 1.3 times compared to the same period last year. This was reported to Izvestia on June 11 by analysts of the AlfaStrakhovanie company, analyzing their own statistics.

Owners of Lada cars reported thefts most often during this period. It is followed by Hyundai, Kia, Renault and GAZ brands in the ranking. In January-May of last year, Hyundai, Kia and Lada led the top.

Moscow continues to lead by a wide margin in terms of regions, followed by St. Petersburg. Regions new to the rating have also appeared in the top — the Kursk and Astrakhan regions, as well as the Udmurt Republic. At the same time, last year the top five were complemented by the Stavropol Territory, the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Karelia.

"Among the Chinese cars that appear among those claimed for hard hats, there are Great Wall, Geely and Chery cars. These are still isolated cases, although compared to 2024 we see an increasing trend, since a year ago it was one car of a Chinese brand, now there are several cases with different brands. At the same time, we believe that it is too early to draw conclusions, it is necessary to accumulate statistics," said Alexander Kharagezov, director of the AlfaStrakhovanie Insurance Benefits Department.
