With the onset of the summer heat, many Russians are faced with the problem of lack of air conditioning in the house. Gulnara Orlova, cardiologist, Director of Insurance Products and Customer Experience Development at Rosgosstrakh Life IC, told Izvestia on June 13 how to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room and avoid overheating.

"The ideal indoor temperature should be +24...+26 degrees. This can be achieved in simple ways that do not require high costs," she said.

Orlova recommended that the apartment be ventilated in the morning and evening when the temperature outside decreases. During the day, windows should be tightly closed, additionally covering them with thick curtains or blinds. This is necessary so that hot air does not enter the apartment, walls and furniture do not heat up and do not give off heat.

"Use a fan — it will promote air circulation. It is necessary to moisten the room: you can hang wet sheets or towels, periodically spray water from a spray bottle, put several containers of water in different places and periodically add ice to them to cool the liquid. An air humidifier will help perfectly in this case, it is compact and does not require special installation," the doctor suggested.

She also recommended drinking more water at room temperature in the summer, taking a cool shower and wiping your face and hands with ice cubes or a wet towel.

Outside in the heat, avoid direct sunlight and do not overuse physical activity.

"Try not to go outside at the peak of solar activity from 12 o'clock to 16. Clothes should be light, made of natural fabrics, preferably wear a hat, panama hat, scarf, bandana," the cardiologist added.

In addition, according to her, the diet should be reviewed: eat more vegetables and fruits, seafood, and low-fat fish. It is better to give up fatty, flour and sweet foods or reduce the amount.

Orlova warned that people with cardiovascular diseases and hypertension are at risk in the heat.

Earlier, on June 7, gastroenterologist and nutritionist Irina Berezhneva called drinks useful in the summer heat. According to her, in addition to plain water, lemonade made from fruits or berries will help to cope with the heat.
