Treasures of the San Jose ship sunk 300 years ago have been found in the Caribbean

Researchers have discovered treasures off the coast of Colombia that were transported aboard the ship San Jose, which sank 300 years ago. This was announced on June 11 by the Live Science portal.
"At the time of the sinking, the galleon was carrying up to 200 tons of gold, silver and rough precious stones," the publication says.
As reported by Gazeta.Ru", the current value of the treasures can reach $17 billion, which potentially makes them the largest known underwater treasure.
The Spanish galleon San Jose was the flagship of a fleet that transported wealth from South America to Spain. She sank after a battle with the British navy in 1708. Its wreckage was discovered in 2015, but has only now been identified.
On December 23, 2024, Alexander Monteiro, an archaeologist from Portugal, announced that he had discovered hundreds of treasure ships in the country's waters. The scientist has compiled a map of 8,620 shipwrecks that have occurred off the coast of the state since 1500.
