The State Duma noted the contribution of the Allies to the victory in World War II
The conflict between Russia and Germany lies in Berlin's silence about historical facts about World War II and the contribution of the Red Army to the liberation from fascism. This is evidenced on June 11 by the response of the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin to the President of the Bundestag Julia Kleckner.
He stressed that the Russian side respects the contribution of the Allies to the victory and will never forget, including the struggle of the German anti-fascists. According to him, we must also not forget that it was the Soviet Union that made a decisive contribution and lost 27 million people in the struggle.
"It's annoying that you can't even give the exact name of the army that took Berlin, calling it the "former Soviet army." In this regard, I have to remind you that it was the Red Army," Volodin said in a reply posted on the State Duma website.
The chairman of the State Duma also recalled that in the post-war period, the Soviet Union opposed the partition of Germany, and also played a key role in its unification in 1990. According to him, few people in Germany talk about this historical fact.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on June 5. During the meeting, he pointed to Washington's contribution to the victory over fascism in World War II and said that Germany was "indebted" to the United States for its help. At the same time, he did not mention the contribution of the Red Army to the liberation of the country from the fascist invaders.
In this regard, Volodin sent an appeal to Kleckner, in which he noted Mertz's distortion of historical facts. He stressed that the German Chancellor had forgotten who had helped liberate the world from Nazism. She, in turn, said that the deputies of the Federal Republic of Germany are aware of the role of the allies, including the USSR, adding that Germany "will not allow itself to be intimidated — neither in expressing its foreign policy position, nor in historical self-awareness and culture of memory."
