Yaroslavl hockey club (HC) Lokomotiv announced the resignation of the head coach of the team Igor Nikitin from his post. Information about this was published on the club's official website on June 11.

"The Lokomotiv Hockey club informs that the former head coach of our team, Igor Nikitin, on his own initiative terminated the contract, which was valid until 2027," the statement said.

It is reported that information about the new coaching staff will be announced later.

The 52-year-old specialist has been the head of the Yaroslavl club since September 2021. Last season, he and his team won the FONBET KHL Championship and the 2025 Gagarin Cup, Sport-Express adds.

HC Lokomotiv defeated Chelyabinsk Traktor on May 29 in the fifth match of the KHL final playoff series and won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in history. As a result of the match, the score in the series became 4:1 in favor of Lokomotiv. Last season, the Yaroslavl club lost to Magnitogorsk Metallurg in the final of the tournament.
