In the Irkutsk region, investigators have identified the largest "gray" cryptocurrency mining farm in recent years. This was reported on June 11 in the press service of the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (IC RF) in the Irkutsk region.
"The third department for the investigation of particularly important cases of the SU IC of Russia in the Irkutsk region is investigating a criminal case on the fact of illegal consumption of electricity, on the grounds of a crime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud committed on an especially large scale")," follows from a publication in the Telegram channel.
It is specified that in order to avoid paying for the consumed electricity, the attackers connected devices bypassing metering devices. During the search, law enforcement officers seized 2,146 pieces of computing equipment in Angarsk, 2,606 mining machines were disconnected from the network in Irkutsk, containers and transformer substations were sealed. The activities of mining farms that committed violations were also suspended.
Earlier, on May 27, in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the city of Makeyevka, police officers stopped the illegal mining of cryptocurrencies using mining farms. It was reported that law enforcement officers found 33 pieces of equipment. The defendants used high-tech equipment that was cooled by a liquid system using so-called dry water.
