General Motors (GM) has announced that it will invest $4 billion to increase production of gasoline and electric cars in the United States. This was reported on June 10 by CNN.

"General Motors has announced that it will invest $4 billion in three plants in the United States to increase production of gas and electric vehicles, as a 25 percent tariff on imported cars by U.S. President Donald Trump threatens the net profits of automakers," the report said.

According to the TV channel, due to Trump's introduction of a 50% tariff on steel and aluminum and parallel changes in other computing indicators, investors, importers and enterprises are looking for an opportunity to preserve automotive production.

"The automaker's plan reflects the desire of manufacturers to invest in the United States in order to circumvent Trump's tariffs, or at least make bright, attractive statements that can bring them a reprieve," CNN notes.

The company said in a release that the funds will be sent to three factories: Orion Assembly in Orion Township, Michigan; Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas; and Spring Hill Manufacturing in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Earlier, on June 4, Trump signed a decree on increasing duties on steel and aluminum imports. According to the US president, the tariff increase will regulate imports, and it will also further secure the US steel industry.
