- Stern announced the desire of some members of the German Cabinet to start negotiations with the Russian Federation.

Members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which is part of the Cabinet, called for the start of negotiations with Russia. This was reported by Stern magazine on Tuesday, June 10.
"In the manifesto "Ensuring peace in Europe through defense, arms control and mutual Understanding," several Social Democrats called for an immediate change in foreign and security policy," the article says.
The authors of the manifesto called for negotiations with Russia as an alternative to the rearmament of the Bundeswehr, and also called for an end to the deployment of new American medium-range missiles in the country and stated that the goal of 5% of GDP to finance NATO is "irrational."
On June 5, US President Donald Trump held talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House. After the meeting, the German Chancellor said that the country would depend on the United States for a long time. The New York Times (NYT) newspaper stated that Merz's mission to attract Trump to support Ukraine had failed. Alexander Kamkin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, noted on June 6 that Merz had confirmed his vassal status with Trump.
On May 6, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier appointed Friedrich Merz as the new Chancellor of Germany. Since he could not get enough votes to be elected head of state in the first round of voting, he was appointed the new chancellor only for the second time.
