Since the beginning of the mass protests in Los Angeles, the number of protesters detained by the police has consistently increased. This was reported on June 11 by CNN with reference to Jim McDonnell, the chief of the city police.

According to him, 27 people were arrested on Saturday. On Sunday, 40 people were arrested, and on Monday, 114 people were arrested. On Tuesday, June 10, authorities took 197 people into custody, the Los Angeles police chief said.

"After several consecutive days of growing unrest throughout the city, starting Saturday, we have witnessed an alarming escalation, as well as illegal and dangerous behavior," McDonnell said.

He also said that 67 protesters were taken into custody after "illegally occupying" the highway.

"Let me make it clear that such behavior — blocking highways, city streets and exits, refusing to comply with lawful dispersal orders and interfering with the work of public security services — is dangerous, illegal and will not be tolerated," the head of the department said.

Mass protests in California began after a police raid to identify illegal migrants, during which 45 people were detained. On June 8, Trump ordered the National Guard to be sent to the state to stop the riots, which was condemned by the governors of 22 states, regarding it as an "abuse of power."

Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Masters reported on June 10 that protesters began throwing fireworks at police officers, as well as committing acts of robbery and breaking into establishments.
