The Supreme Court of Argentina on Tuesday, June 10, upheld the sentence of former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to six years in prison and a lifetime ban from holding public office.

"She is banned from holding public office for life, and she will not run in the upcoming elections. The former president may request house arrest to serve his six—year term," the TN TV channel says.

In 2022, Kirchner was sentenced to six years in prison in a corruption case, but did not serve a single term, because at that time she was the current vice president of Argentina.

Earlier, on October 15, 2024, Kirchner announced her intention to lead the opposition. She is going to lead the opposition bloc Partido Justicialista (Justicialist Party). The Partido Justicialista bloc unites all the parties that belong to the so-called Peronist movement. The policy of the Peronists is aimed at developing a socially oriented economy with an emphasis on exports, the promotion of high technologies, and the fight against poverty.
