The State Duma announced a new bill to protect historical memory.
A new bill on the protection of traditional spiritual and moral values of Russia is being developed in the State Duma. Olga Zanko, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Public and Religious Associations, told Izvestia about this on Tuesday, June 10.
"Over the past few years, we have adopted a number of significant laws aimed at protecting Russia's traditional spiritual and moral values. Among them are the law on the protection of the St. George ribbon as a symbol of respect for the heroic deed of the defenders of the Fatherland, the prohibition of propaganda of same—sex marriage and childfree ideology, and support for NGOs (non-profit organizations. — Ed.), who promote family values and having many children, the law on perpetuating the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Soviet people committed by the Nazis and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War, and others," Zanko said.
She added that she is currently working on new draft laws in this area.
A special role in the protection of historical memory is played by the draft law on the establishment of a new commemorative date — the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the Soviet People, Zanko believes. According to her, an initiative has already been sent to the Supreme Court and the government to establish criminal liability for denying the fact of the genocide of the Soviet people.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the topic of improving state policy in the field of protection of traditional values important and relevant for the state. According to him, this issue is related to ensuring the sovereignty and national interests of the country, strengthening security, harmony and stability in society, addressing the most important issues of saving people, as well as developing demography and educating young people.
