Scammers have come up with a new scheme to deceive citizens, under the guise of a school psychologist, scammers are trying to gain access to personal data and bank accounts of parents. Dmitry Revyakin, Vice President of VTB Bank and Head of the Corporate Interests Protection Department of the Security Department, told Izvestia on June 11.

According to him, the attackers call parents, and, posing as methodologists or psychologists from the school, they demand to provide personal data, for example, details of documents that can be used to access state portals, bank applications, as well as to apply for a loan.

"Scammers have become especially active in using school themes, playing on parental feelings. They create an artificial sense of urgency, specifically using official terms like "state certification" or "student profile" to create trust and prevent the victim from assessing the situation soberly. Always question the authenticity of your interlocutor's words," Revyakin said.

He stressed that similar calls can be directed against any Russian, regardless of gender, age, social status and place of residence. Scammers call not only parents of schoolchildren, but also those who do not have children or are already adults — criminals massively make calls at random, counting on the victim's confusion, the VTB vice president warned.

In February, the Department for combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Russian Interior Ministry reported that intruders were trying to get parents' money by influencing children. It is clarified that the scammers pose as employees of the Russian Post, Gosuslug, and the FSB and convince children of the need to "declare" the family's valuables.
