London Mayor Sadiq Khan received a knighthood from King Charles III of Great Britain at Buckingham Palace, despite the negative public reaction. This was reported on June 10 by the Daily Mail portal.

"The award of the knighthood for political and public activities was announced as part of the New Year awards, but the king officially presented it only today," the publication says.

After that, the mayor wrote on his Facebook page (owned by the recognized extremist Meta company, its activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) that if a person works hard, then he will receive support.

"I am immensely proud that I received my knighthood today <...>, I never imagined that one day I would be awarded such a great honor as mayor of London," he said.

At the same time, the Conservative Party condemned the decision to award Khan a knighthood, saying that he failed to take control of the crime situation in London.

Earlier, on June 6, it was reported that football player David Beckham may be knighted during the celebration of the British king's birthday. It is specified that he is also on the guest of honor list.
