CNN reported the sale of a lost Rodin statuette at auction for $1 million
A sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin, which was found by an ordinary family in France, sold at auction for almost $ 1 million. This was reported on June 10 by CNN with reference to auctioneer Emerick Rouillac.
It is specified that the statue of the artist Auguste Rodin disappeared from public view almost 120 years ago and was considered a copy. According to the family who kept the statuette for a long time, they also thought it was a fake.
"The previous owners, a family from central France, had no idea of its value and put the sculpture on the piano next to family photos," the newspaper quoted Rouillac as saying.
He decided to verify the authenticity of the sculpture and took it for examination to the Rodin committee, which is engaged in the preservation of his legacy. According to the co-founder of the organization, Gerard Le Blais, he was impressed by the "exclusivity" of the work.
"I immediately realized that it was real. I had absolutely no doubts," he stressed.
It is noted that the small sculpture was originally conceived as part of Rodin's monumental work "Gates of Hell", which includes more than 200 figures.
According to the Rouillac auction house, the young banker won the auction, he bought the sculpture for €860,000 ($984,000).
