- The court sentenced to 24 years for killing a skater and arranging a shootout with the police

The Moscow City Court sentenced Andrei Demin, a Muscovite who killed his friend, former professional skater Konstantin Balishansky, and staged a shootout with police officers in 2024, to 24 years in prison. This was reported on June 10 in the press service of the Moscow prosecutor's office.
"Demin has been sentenced to 24 years in prison with the first seven years in prison, and the remainder of the sentence in a high—security penal colony," the Telegram channel says.
In addition, the court granted the claim of the deceased's father in the amount of 5 million rubles.
Demin is charged under paragraph "e" of Part 2 of Article 105 ("Murder committed in a generally dangerous manner"), Article 317 ("Assault on the life of a law enforcement officer"), part 1 of Article 223 ("Illegal manufacture of firearms"), part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and carrying of firearms and ammunition").
The murder took place on June 6, 2024 in the west of Moscow. Demin shot Balishansky, 34, several times and fled. He was detained on the same day. When resisting, the man shot at the police at least 15 times, was wounded and hospitalized in serious condition, and then underwent surgery.
Demin and Balishansky had known each other since their youth and lived in neighboring houses. The attacker admitted that since 2019 he had intended to kill the man out of personal hostility. Like the deceased, he was fond of skateboarding, sold equipment for skaters and was a journalist for a thematic publication.
