In St. Petersburg, the 1st Western District Military Court sentenced to 14 years in prison a former policeman who carried out assignments for the Legion of Freedom of Russia, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation. This was reported on June 10 by a source of Izvestia.
According to him, the convict, on the instructions of members of the organization, in January 2024, put several inscriptions in support of terrorists on the buildings of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and two temples of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
During the investigation, it became clear that the accused served in the Interior Ministry in the 1990s, from where he was dismissed on suspicion of corruption. The investigation also found that before his arrest, he planned to travel to Ukraine with his son to participate in military operations against the Russian Armed Forces as part of terrorist groups in Ukraine.
The court found him guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, damaging cultural heritage sites and vandalism. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
On May 15, the Second Western District Military Court sentenced Sergey Veselov, a resident of Elektrostal, who joined the Freedom of Russia Legion, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation, to 13 years in prison. In addition, he is also prohibited from creating pages on the Internet for a period of three years.
