The Foreign Ministry called the condition for resolving the issue of American fuel at the nuclear power plant

It is impossible to resolve the issue of American fuel at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) without dialogue with the United States. This was stated to journalists by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

He commented on the appeal of the head of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexei Likhachev to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with a request to mediate in resolving the situation with American nuclear fuel at the Zaporizhia NPP. According to the deputy Foreign Minister, the station is a Russian nuclear facility and is under the full control of Rosatom personnel and structures.

"As I understand it, the General Director of the state corporation expressed the opinion that, given the circumstances, namely the long period when attempts were made at this facility to "replace" Russian-made fuel assemblies with American ones, a number of issues arise, including legal ones.: what about the American—made fuel at this facility," Ryabkov said.

The deputy minister pointed out that it would not be possible to make a decision without dialogue with the Americans.
