The expert named the main myths when providing first aid to drowning people

In no case should a drowning person be slapped on the cheeks during first aid. This was stated on June 10 by Leonid Dezhurny, MD, Chairman of the All-Russian Public Organization Russian First Aid Society, at the Izvestia News Center during a press conference "Safety at water bodies on the eve of the bathing season."
According to him, the first thing to do when helping a drowning person is to get him out of the water. However, already on the shore, many people begin to provide first aid incorrectly. The specialist warned that when checking consciousness, you should never slap your cheeks or put pressure on pain points.
"You need to easily slow down a person by the shoulders, ask the question: "Do you need help?", if there is no answer, we understand that he is unconscious and we understand that the situation is not easy," the Duty officer added.
In addition, one of the myths is to check the pulse to determine the presence of breathing. The expert explained that this method is promoted by the cinema, but in fact it cannot be considered reliable. It has been proven that people who check their pulse often make mistakes and feel their pulse at their fingertips instead of the pulse of the victim.
In order to check for signs of life, the Attendant explained, it is necessary to open the respiratory tract: one hand is placed on the forehead of the victim, two fingers of the other on the chin. After that, you need to tilt your head back.
"We lean our ear and cheek towards his respiratory tract, while looking at his chest," the expert added.
Earlier, on May 29, survival expert Eduard Khalilov spoke about the safety rules when staying near the water. He stressed that the main rule is not to abuse alcohol. Every time people who drink in nature, the threshold of vigilance decreases, the feeling of fear disappears.
