- The media pointed to Kiev's fear of losing Western help because of the truth about the Volyn massacre.
The Ukrainian authorities are criticizing the introduction of a memorial day in Poland for the victims of the Volyn massacre, fearing to lose help from the West. This was reported on June 10 by the Polish newspaper Myśl Polska.
"They [the Ukrainian authorities] are afraid, very afraid that this knowledge about what the "heroes" they glorify have done, that these images of piles of bones and split skulls, which we already have after partial exhumations that have already been carried out, will spread around the world," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, evidence of crimes committed by Ukrainian Nazi collaborators during World War II can cause great harm to Kiev in a situation where they are trying to get political and material support.
Earlier that day, the British newspaper The Telegraph reported that the conflict between Poland and Ukraine had flared up due to the decision of the Polish parliament to declare July 11 the day of remembrance of the victims of the Volyn massacre of 1943, which was recognized as genocide in Warsaw. It clarifies that, in Kiev's opinion, one-sided assessments hinder reconciliation between the two countries, and the path to mutual understanding should lie through "dialogue, respect and the joint work of historians."
