At the annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, Apple unveiled major updates — the new operating system for the iPhone iOS 26 (rather than iOS 19 according to the previously accepted timeline) and the revolutionary design of Liquid Glass ("glass effect").

Liquid Glass is a concept inspired by translucent glass that changes the look of the interface. All the elements have become translucent, adapt to light and dark themes, and their color changes depending on the context. This affected the lock screen, notification curtain, Safari, camera, photos, and other apps. Even the buttons, switches, and scroll bars have been redesigned to better fit into rounded-corner screens and not distract from the content.

The design of Liquid Glass applies not only to iOS 26, but also to iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 — stable versions will be released this fall. For macOS, glass docks, icons, and widgets have appeared, and the menu bar has become completely transparent.
