The expert spoke about the "romantic" type of cryptocurrency fraud

Today, the "romantic" form of fraud in the cryptocurrency market – "crypto romance scams" - has gained particular popularity. About how it manifests itself and how to protect yourself, July 10, "Gazeta.Ru" said the director of communications of the cryptocurrency exchange Exmo.me Mikhail Smirnov.

"The fraudster builds a trusting relationship with the victim, most often online, and gradually engages her in an emotional connection. Dating often takes place on dating sites or on social networks, where fake accounts with photos of attractive people are created. At the same time, the attackers are carefully working out the legend," the specialist said.

When a fraudster begins to realize that his victim has an emotional connection, he offers various ways to transfer cryptocurrencies as temporary assistance. In such cases, the fraudster uses the blockchain system to make it almost impossible to get the funds back. Editing, artificial intelligence, and fake videos are often used.

In order not to become a victim of a fraudster in the crypto market, it is important to follow certain rules. Among them, avoiding publishing personal information, being wary of unfamiliar people, and checking the authenticity of the interlocutor on the Internet.

"Never transfer digital currency to people you only know by correspondence, and do not share confidential data. <...> Vigilance and critical thinking are key tools to protect against such schemes," the expert noted.
