Syrian Foreign Minister may visit Russia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Transitional Government, Asaad al-Shibani, may pay a visit to Moscow. An informed source told Izvestia about this.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that al-Shibani had received an official invitation to visit Russia. A personal meeting of the diplomats took place in April this year on the sidelines of diplomatic events in Antalya, Turkey.

"The Syrian side is considering the possibility of a visit. There is a desire," the source told Izvestia.

On May 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, following talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, said that the parties understood the importance of providing support to the Syrian authorities during the country's transition period.
